Information

This unique, award winning, jewelry is made by arranging real flowers on a porcelain chip. The flowers are applied soon after harvesting in order to preserve their natural colors. A light coating of glue is applied to hold them in place and a final step of applying a very tough preservative coating. The art is ours. We began developing the craft in the mid 1960's, improved and refined through the present. To our knowledge no one else does this type of work. We fire the porcelain pieces and gather the blossoms and grasses . We purchase the findings on the open market. We do one craft fair each year, do wholesale (please E-Mail for more information), and now will try the Internet.

No 6659-0.jpgtwo pieces are exactly alike, quite obviously, but with careful choosing from Mother Nature's offerings its most difficult to see the differences in the earrings. As you can also see the earrings must be mirror images of each other. The clay body is predominately kaolin and china clay. It is rolled to the proper thickness and cut to the proper size with a "cookie cutter". Then sponged to the proper shape and fired to 2500 F. Flowers and grasses must be gathered at just the right point in their growing cycle. This can vary from year to year depending on weather and el Nino. They are then flattened in a press. They need to be used as soon as possible, while still pliable. Flowers that are allowed to dry must be "reconstituted". Elli applies a thin coating of glue to the porcelain piece and arranges the flowers. After drying, a tough, durable coating is applied. These inserts are then assembled in findings. Our finding are obtained from two primary suppliers, Cory Tool and Die in Rhode Island and National Art Craft in Ohio. The findings are base metal with a gold color or silver color plating - they are not precious metals. All earrings are surgical steel and hypoallergenic.
